P-Day 68

Hi Mom!

I am doing good. Juneau is doing good! Elder Pew is the man! He is super funny and a good guy. This week was a very interesting week with transfers. That rain and snow mix made it interesting to get people places. Everyone made it safe though! 

Monday: Monday! We had to drop off Elder Na'a and Elder Juarez off at the airport. They are now home. It was a sad moment. Glad I have time left whew! But we were exhausted and we hung out with Josh Tupou all day. We were supposed to pick up Whitehorse, but their flight was canceled. So they were going to get on the ferry and get in at 2 am. And that was delayed. So they had to stay the night in Skagway. Their truck also got a flat tire. 

Tuesday: I dropped off Elder Keys. He was disappointed to leave but he will do good in Lake Otis Samoan Ward. We got Skagway. Elder Kipp, Elder Rider and I trio'd for a few hours. We taught repentance and baptized converts. Then we dropped Elder Rider off at the airport and Elder Kipp, Elder Stepp and I trio'd. I had a ton off companions in a short amount of time: Elder McKamey, Elder Kipp, Elder Stepp, and Elder Rider. 

Wednesday: I got Elder Pew! We mostly just went around and introduced him to everyone. Elder Pew is the man! 

Thursday: We were supposed to have a super busy day... but everything fell through. We were able to teach Jessica and she is doing well. She is committed to change. She won't be able to be baptized until next year but she wants it bad. 

Friday: We were able to teach the Tyskas. They are still doing well. Fun and energetic as always. Not much happened Friday. 

Saturday: We had a busy busy day! We taught several lessons and several dinners... but we taught Mary Ann's sister and she said if her husband allowed it she would join the church! 

Sunday: We got a new Ward mission leader in Mt. Juneau Ward: Brother Sekona. One day in and I can already tell he will be good. We had correlation and he came and already had lessons set up with investigators for us. Things will go good here. 

Besides all that, we have just been OYMing and knocking doors. All the converts are strong and we are looking for more solid investigators. The work is awesome. Elder Pew is the man. Things are good! I love you!

P-Day 67

Hi Mom!

I am doing well. I'll do the Day by day thingy again. That was easier. So Autumn Iputi added you on FB. Accept her! She's awesome. 

But I know Elder Call kind of. So we went through a spell of very little missionaries. So they went us a ton. We have over 40% of our mission in training. So I know nobody anymore. They released a ton of ZLs and called new ones, so I'm like, one of the oldest ZLs. Also Elder Jensen, from my mtc group, went AP. That was cool. 

And the voting. So I can vote absentee. Also, they never took my AZ license. I have both. Random question, but since I still have my AZ driver's license, do I have to get a new one even though I have an AK one too? But yeah we can vote absentee. I know very little about the options so yeah.. 

Monday: Last Monday, we decided not to go on a hike. Elder Na'a was feeling super sick. So we went to Echo Cove and had a bonfire on the beach. We also picked up a super cool potential YSA investigator. He randomly drove up on his little Coleman motorcycle as he was Rednecking out. He was legit. 

Tuesday: We had a pretty regular day. We gave a blessing, had district meeting, and had a lesson with Ivy. Ivy is doing super well. She was upset because she didn't do our commitment as well as she thought she could..... Haha if only our investigators were this good. She was so happy to be back in church. Her husband is even talking about coming back. Blessings from coming to church right?!

Wednesday: We thought this was going to be a slow day... we had a longggggg planning session. We put down every name we could think of to visit because we thought we would have a slow day. Turns out to be one of the busiest this week. We home taught a member who just moved up, we met with Gil, we had the Adams, and Iputi's. Gil is a former investigator we dropped, but something felt right about going. So we did, and we read the first chapter of the Book of Mormon. He claims to be pagan, but he has weird pagan beliefs that line up with Christianity pretty close. So he is basically Christian without saying he is Christian. So we believe we can start working with him. His dad also has a ton of potential. We talked with him for a while. Adams was awesome as always. Brother Adams is the second counselor in the YSA branch presidency and while we were doing the 555 appointments, he and his wife were one of them. It is the only one still going... Since his wife has never gone through the missionary lessons, we go over there and teach them. It turns into a large companionship study and a ton of questions asked all around. I love it. We usually take a point a week. 

Thursday: Thursday was supposed to be our busiest day... and it was probably the slowest. We were able to have a lesson with Jessica and Suewedna. Jessica is one of our progressing investigators. She lives in the halfway house so it's difficult to get in touch with her... but we had a lesson and it went well. We did L2 and talked about the plan of salvation and she was in tears hearing about the blessings that come from it. Our member killed it as well. Then we had a Tongan dinner 💀 but they invited a family. This was a family the missionaries used to meet with. The husband and kids weren't interested but the mom was. The parents are divorced now. The kids aren't super interested but are willing to try it out, but the mom is still super interested. We taught the restoration. It was a powerful lesson. The mom had a ton of questions coming in and they were answered as we taught. The spirit is powerful. She has almost read the entire Book of Mormon. She is definitely prepared. 

Friday: Friday was a normal day, not much happened. Except for transfer calls.. I will be staying here in Juneau. Elder Keys will be spending his last 6 weeks in Anchorage at the Lake Otis Samoan Ward. He isn't pumped... He didn't want to leave for his last transfer, or go to Anchorage. And he got both. He also has to learn Samoan and greenie break a missionary from the Islands. God has a plan. My new companion will be Elder Pew! I know him pretty well. He is a funny guy. He has 2 transfers left (Which means this is probably my last transfer in Juneau since they don't whitewash ZL areas) and I am excited to serve with him. 

Saturday: We went and visited some people with our branch mission leader Josh. We got a text from Autumn Iputi. She had a super spiritual experience where she woke up with the scriptures open on the table and she felt she needed to read them. She went on to read a couple chapters on her own. (I spent 3 months trying to get her to do that and she never did...) and then watched all of Women's Conference and several other talks. She is now super committed to come back. God prepares people in their own time.  

Sunday: IT SNOWED. We got about 4 inches of snow. But... by the afternoon it was disappearing quick because it turned to rain.. but it still snowed. Snow is cool for a day... then it sucks. So I a, glad it is going away. #TeamSun🌞🌞🌞🌞☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️🔥🔥 Sunday was good. Ivy came to church and things went well. Elder Keys said some good byes. We also walked around downtown with our investigator Crystal and handed out blankets to the homeless people. It was super cool. She was like, "I have extra blankets, let's go hand them out to people who need them." 

Today: We dropped Elder Na'a at the airport to fly to Anchorage before he goes home. I'm going to miss him. He is one of the first missionaries I met in AK and I am so happy to serve with him as missionaries in AK. He is an example to me. He will be missed. Ofa Atu Elder Na'a. We also had to pick up the Whitehorse missionaries and we gave them a car. But we are sitting here at Josh's (Our YSA branch mission leader) in tupenus  (The Tongan traditional skirt thingy) and just chilling. We don't plan on doing anything... so yeah! Elder Keys flies out tomorrow.

P-Day 66

Hi Mom!

I am glad you had a good week. Last one seemed busy busy. Haha that's funny about Garrett's diet. Time to make fun of him. 

And I am good on money, all major expenses are gone. Plus, I have a ton of left over allotment because of the Tongans. That's super cool about the investigator!!

Things are going well here in Juneau. We decided to go through out investigator pool and drop everyone who isn't elect... We realized how little we actually have. So we will trust that God will guide us to people. Time to knock some doors.

Monday: We went and hiked Mt. Juneau. That was a fun hike! I am so out of shape...🍔🍔🍟🍟🍟🍔🍔🍔🍟🍟 It was about 10-12 miles round trip I believe. Or maybe it just felt that way... but either way, it was long and fun. We did it with the district that is here in Juneau.

Tuesday: Tuesday was a regular day until 6. Then we flew into Anchorage. We had Mission Leadership Council. So, we flew out when it was dark and we got to see the northern lights from the plane. It is wayyyyyy better on the ground. It looks like green clouds from the side...

Wednesday: We had MLC. It was a good one this time. Last one was pretty.... not good. We have a pretty sweet training I think. It was called ticket to Heaven and it is about making missionary work a lot more personal. We used a lot of imagery and such. All the other trainings were good as well. We flew back Wednesday night.

Thursday: We planned for Zone meeting on Friday. We also had a lesson with this less active lady the sisters referred to us. She was pretty cool, her name is Moira. She was baptized in Samoa but hasn't really been active since. She has a non member husband and is open to progressing.

Friday: We had Zone meeting! It was a good meeting. The trainings went well, technology worked for the most part, and the spirit was strong. So it was a good meeting.

Saturday: This was one of the slowest days I have had on the mission.. We had no clue what to do all day... we stayed working. At our dinner, Mary Ann, our recent convert Filipino, taught me how to make Chicken Adobo😍😍 Time to gain more weight...

Sunday: It was a good Sunday. We had 2 less actives come to church and both were super touched. Ivy, one of the less actives, went from not really interested in returning, to deciding to come. She came and bore her testimony and was an active participant. It was amazing to see her change and hopefully she keeps it up!

Today: We are gunna hike again for Elder Na'a's last P-day. The silvers aren't running anymore so no more fishing.

We get transfer calls this week so, we'll see what happens. I'll let you know next week. #PrayForHmong haha it's getting cold... it was 29 degrees this am when we left... ughhhhh I hate the cold. I love you!

P-Day 65

Hi Mom!

Grand Canyon... How far was it from STV? That sounds fun though. Garrett leaves Tuesday right? 

This week was pretty good. Conference was AMAZINGGGGGGGGGGGGG. It was the best. We had several less actives and an investigator come. The investigator absolutely loved it. She thought it was amazing. We downloaded the gospel library app onto her phone and she is pumped to listen to more. 

We had a pretty standard week. Go teach the gospel. Ketchikan got canceled entirely. We go to Anchorage, pray I get to meet a Hmong in the airport to talk to! 

 We went to the airport because Bro. Adams, our YSA branch 1st counselor, works there and he had a lesson he shared with us one time which is our MLC training. So we needed more information from him. In turn, we were gonna do service. But the service cancelled, so we drove around with him and explored his job a little bit. 

He has the coolest job ever: Make sure birds and planes don't mix using whatever you need: Like firecrackers, explosives, guns, perches, chainsaws, etc. I want his job so bad. It was a blast going around for a half an hour or so. 

But yeah not much this week... Conference was amazing. I finished the Book of Mormon in Hmong cover to cover last week. I decided to actually do it a few weeks ago so I did. It's as true in Hmong as in english. I love and miss you.

P-Day 64 (and pictures!!!!)

Hi mom!

I am doing awesome! So happy all the Zone Conference stuff is done. I did get the voice recorder! President brought it with him to zone conference. It's awesome, thank you! I love it. 

Haha I love teaching people how to speak English! It is fun. And stop flaking on the missionaries :P gosh! I also have a request. Can you get me Kirk Russell and Tracy Purtee's email address?! Remember them? They were the fishing tournament people. Tracy's should be on the website. Wasn't it like Go fishin? Also, Kirk's should be on there too, if not, he sponsors them. So under the sponsors you can look. I can't remember specific names but yeah.. 

So last P-Day was hectic. We ran people around and fished in between. It was super fun and stressful. Plans were late and such. Stupid delays. 

Zone conference went well! It was a spiritual meeting. Our training didn't go as planned because it got cut in half but people said it was good and they learned a lot. We are having problems with motivation. We have a rather old Zone. Not a lot of greenie fire so we talked about Jesus's life. We went through main events then focused on the atonement. Because PMG says, as you learn more about the atonement, your desires to share the gospel are increased. 

Wednesday was like Monday minus fishing. We were running people around and hosting them. Planes were delayed and such. We got like no sleep. It was a tiring day. 

The baptism was awesome! We each baptized and confirmed one. The water in the building is super weird and the hot water doesn't work well. So we ended up boiling water and using the little hot water in the church. So we did it very slowly. It didn't turn out very warm but it was warmer then Andy's. 

This week was good! I love you!

P-Day 63

Hi Mom!

Juneau is awesome! It's rained a lot and very hard. Sounds like a bunch of things happened! Fun. 

So we have the baptism for the Tyskas this Saturday! They are super excited. We finished up the lessons and just have the baptismal interview this week. You'll hear all about it next week. 

We got a new investigator this week. His name is Kurry and he's 19. He is a funny guy and his grandma was a member and she passed when he was 8. He is remembering the stuff she taught him and he has decided to learn more about what made her happy.

We had a huge Polynesian breakfast last week with waffles. Super unhealthy, but super good. We made waffles with Nutella, fruit and about half a can of whipped cream per waffle... Then chickens

Zone conference is tomorrow so we are bussing around missionaries today.  Probably some fishing right before that with the APs. Elder Keys caught two silvers last week, I caught a bunch of flounders but nothing noteworthy like silvers. We'll try again this today!

We have a cool training for Zone Conference, I'll talk about it next week. Not a lot of time today. I love and miss you!

P-Day 62

Hi Mom!

So about the Tongan thing, this mission is considered a Tongan, Samoan, Spanish and English mission. They will call Tongan and Samoan missionaries but they are usually from the islands or are Tongan or Samoan. Then they will call a few Filipinos from the island and Hmong people every once in a while. But we aren't considered a Tagalong or Hmong mission by headquarters. 

Haha love the pictures of Garrett. What a gorp. My birthday was good. We were so exhausted we ended up napping it out and it was awesome! Juneau is awesome! But I have one request. So Gma and Gpa Cervelli sent me a 200 Amazon E Card... I figured something I wanted. So you know the old fashion tape recorders? Can I get one but not old fashioned. I think they would have a new electronic one that goes to like a USB or something. But I want it to record and listen back to my Hmong. Also if (when) I go back to Hmong, I can use it to record conversations and play it back to increase my Hmong skills (: I'll forward the email to you. And use whatever is left for whatever you need. Tuesday was a normal proselyting day. What what?!?! The only thing crazy going on was Tuesday and Wednesday was transfers. Since we were both staying we didn't have anything logistically for us. But since we are the zone leaders... Everyone leaving and coming into SE Alaska, we were in charge of. So Tuesday night we were going to host 2 missionaries: Elder Janes and Elder Noack. Their ferry was supposed to come in at 9pm, and it was a 9 hour ferry ride. Well.. It left late. So we didn't get them until 11pm. So we took them back to our place, did the whole talking thing and went to bed. 

Well, Elder Janes had to be at the airport at 6:15am the next morning. So we got up earlier and dropped him off. We then just chilled with Elder Noack and did a little bit of studies until we had to go get Elder White and Elder Dunn. They were flying to Petersburg. They had a 4 hour layover in Juneau so we picked them up and hauled them around at 9:30 am. So us 5 just went to eat until Elder Noack had to be at the airport at Noon. Then we hung out with Elder White and Dunn until they had to be at the airport at 1:30pm. Basically that was the only administration stuff we had to do. It was only a few hours!

We taught the Tyskas some more commandments. Their baptism is in 2 weeks on the 24th, so we are taking our time with them. They are excited for the baptism. They asked their mom to make it sooner because they couldn't wait. They are fun! 

We started the new member lessons with Andy. Gerrardo, his brother, is 17 and amped to go on a mission. He talks about it all the time. He is always reading Preach My Gospel in church and stuff. So we decided to help him be the teacher for the new member lessons. We went over the restoration. Andy was also playing with a Rubix cube so we did an impromptu visual lesson with the Rubix cube involving the restoration! It was pretty sweet. 

Zone conference is on the 20th so we have to plan our training this week. It's a 60 minute training 😅😅 haha just kidding, all me and Elder Keys trainings always go longer then planned so we'll be fine. 

We had a guy randomly show up to church yesterday. He said he was walking around and saw our church and felt like he should go. So he did. He came to sacrament meeting and saw we worshipped Christ and wanted to learn more. So we gave him a BoM and explained a little bit and invited him to learn more. Cool little miracle. 

Next week is Zone conference, the week after, we go to Ketchikan. Then the week after that is MLC/Zone meeting, then the week after that is transfer calls. We are about to be packed the rest of the month. Pray for me to survive haha😅😅 also, pray for me to catch a Coho salmon finally... I should probably stick to bass fishing. But I love you all and the gospel is true. Have a good week!
